DPDP compliance statement
This statement explains how Policy Mitra AIOS approaches the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act). It describes our approach and is not a certificate of compliance or legal advice.
1. Who is responsible for what
An insurance advisor or broker who records their customers' information in Policy Mitra AIOS decides why and how that information is used. Under the DPDP Act they act as the data fiduciary for those customers, and Policy Mitra processes the information on their behalf.
For the account details of advisors, brokers and customers who sign up directly, Policy Mitra is the data fiduciary.
2. Consent and notice
Personal data is collected for stated purposes: managing insurance policies, renewals, claims, documents and requests. Advisors are responsible for having their customers' consent to record their information, and the product is designed to make the purpose clear when a customer account is created.
3. Purpose limitation
Information entered into the platform is used to provide the service to the advisor and their customers. It is not sold and is not used for advertising.
4. Rights of the individual
Individuals whose data is held in the platform can ask to:
- See what information is held about them.
- Correct information that is inaccurate or out of date.
- Have their information erased when it is no longer needed for the purpose it was collected for, subject to any legal requirement to retain it.
- Withdraw consent and raise a grievance.
5. How to make a request
Customers can raise a request with their advisor, or write to the support address in the footer of this site. We will respond and, where the advisor is the data fiduciary, work with them to complete the request.
6. Children's data
Family records may include children who are covered under a policy. These records are added by the parent or guardian, or by the advisor on their instruction, for the purpose of managing that cover.
7. Updates
Rules under the DPDP Act continue to be notified. This statement will be updated as they take effect and as the product changes.
