Motor Insurance
Covers your liability to others and, with a comprehensive policy, damage to or theft of your own vehicle.
What it covers
- Third-party injury, death and property damage (mandatory by law in India)
- Accident damage to your own vehicle, under a comprehensive policy
- Theft, fire, flood and other listed perils, under a comprehensive policy
- Personal accident cover for the owner-driver
What is usually not covered
- Normal wear and tear and mechanical breakdown
- Driving without a valid licence or under the influence
- Depreciation on parts, unless you add zero-depreciation cover
Exact inclusions and exclusions depend on the policy you buy. Always read the policy wording.
Who it is for
- Every vehicle owner — third-party cover is a legal requirement
- Owners of new or financed vehicles who need own-damage cover
- Businesses running delivery or passenger vehicles
Plan types you can request
- Comprehensive car insurance
- Third-party liability plus damage to your own car.
- Two-wheeler insurance
- Cover for motorcycles and scooters.
- Commercial vehicle insurance
- Cover for goods carriers and passenger vehicles.
- Third-party only
- The minimum cover required by law.
Important considerations
Insured declared value (IDV)
IDV is the most you are paid if the vehicle is stolen or written off. A lower IDV reduces the premium but also the payout.
No-claim bonus
A claim-free year earns a discount on the next own-damage premium. It moves with you when you change insurer.
Add-ons
Zero depreciation, engine protection and roadside assistance are bought separately. Choose the ones that match the vehicle's age and use.
Renew on time
A lapsed policy means driving uninsured, and a break of more than 90 days loses the no-claim bonus.

An advisor will usually ask for:

- Previous policy expiry date
- Claims made in the last year
- Add-ons you want
